About The Oracle
We’ve been part of Reading’s story since 1999. And like our town, we’ve always looked forward.
Built along the banks of the River Kennet, The Oracle transformed a stretch of former industrial land into something new – a vibrant destination where culture, community and creativity come together. But its roots go even deeper.
The centre takes its name from the original Oracle workhouse, established in the 17th century by local clothier John Kendrick to support Reading’s textile trade and provide relief to the poor. What was once a hub of local industry has evolved into a place where people come to shop, dine, and unwind by the river – while staying connected to the town’s history of innovation and care.

Today, The Oracle is home to big-name brands, indie gems, riverside restaurants and year-round entertainment – all in one scenic spot.

Who we are
We’re more than a shopping centre – we’re part of Reading. And just like our town, we play many roles:
