The Oracle

Safe spaces scheme

Launching at The Oracle

At The Oracle the Safe Spaces Scheme will help people with a disability feel confident and safe whilst visiting the centre. A disability is an impairment that may be cognitive, developmental, intellectual, mental, physical, sensory, or some combination of these. The purpose of the scheme is that if someone feels they require additional support whilst visiting the centre they have “Safe Spaces” to go to.  A Safe Space is somewhere a person can go and ask for help if they need assistance, are lost, frightened or in difficulty. We are developing a network of Safe Spaces across The Oracle so that help will always be nearby. How does the scheme work? If you are in need of some assistance, all you need to do is look for the Safe Spaces logo on display in a retailer’s window. This is a Safe Space where there are staff who will be able to help. Below are some examples of support that a retailer can offer: • Assistance whilst shopping within a retailer • Giving you a safe space to sit quietly before continuing with your day • Assistance in getting around the shopping centre and finding things like toilets, car parks and other shops • In some instances, it may be that the best support the Safe Space (retailer staff) can offer is to call Customer Services who can offer further assistance and support  Services that Customer Services can offer: • Shopmobility – customers can hire out mobility scooters, powerchairs, wheelchairs, walkers and pushchairs for the day free of charge which can be used all over Reading town centre. Our Shopmobility office, located on Level 1 of the Holybrook Car Park also has a quiet seating area if customers need a minute to themselves, two disabled toilets and we also have a photo machine suitable for wheelchair users • Handsfree shopping – exclusive to Oracle Plus app members, we allow customers to leave their shopping with us at the Customer Service Desk so they can enjoy the rest of their day without having to carry heavy bags around. • Personal shopper (staff availability dependent) – we are available to assist customers to various shops and show them around the centre and make their shopping experience less stressful and help them enjoy their experience in The Oracle. We can also assist customers back to their car with their shopping. • Collect+ - for customers who prefer to online shop, we offer Collect+ so customers can come and pick up their online orders as well as return them with us as well. • Gift Cards – can be an easier option than walking around the centre struggling for present ideas! • Arranging taxis – If a customer can’t make it to a taxi rank or is unsure of where to go, we are more than happy to arrange a taxi to pick them up from a place that suits them and we (staff availability dependent) are happy to help them to their taxi
